Genine Orah Rainbeau-Heart AKA G. Rai Orah, the Art Lush

UC San Diego’s invitation to participate in the Disability Awareness Month 2020 Art Exhibit included a prompt
“to submit… art that is symbolic”. Context of symbolism: the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), an historic piece of legislation.
UCSD and I were born in the same town in the same year. Half a lifetime ago, I was oh-so busy living my
“fully able” life. Woman, wife, mother, entrepreneur, “dare-devil” (30th birthday skydiving), pet owner, daughter; working at living my life capably.
Auto accident: 10/31/2001. Big status change. Legal classification: Disabled.
The gifts: I got to go back to school for another round, increasing my skills and abilities; full support for engaging my passion and talent as an multi-modal artist.
Curatorial choices of fine art paintings for 2020’s theme: easy. My four paintings relate specifically to healing.
As I honor the work of my artistic engagement, life gets better.

July Improv 2020

Acrylic on Canvas | $666

Summer 2020 (duh)—I’d learned the word, “FOOSH” in the Emergency Room at the end of April. Acronym: Fall On Outstretched Hand. I endured months of excruciating pain and functional limitation. Then I just had to create! Leftie served just great! Textures and layers, numbers and prayers: my life.

An abstract art piece, looking out a window at irregular lines, that make up the feeling of the summer beach side.

Eighteen Windows

Acrylic on Canvas | $3,600

Autumn 2019—My homage to October's Blue Moon. Eighteen years later, in 2019, reflections, transparencies, structure and mystery. Yes, even the shadow of my little orange tree. The mountains and moons are within me.
My clarity of intent: to honor the epic day when the driver backed into my car on 10/31/2001. I subsequently became disabled. The creation of this tableau represents the beauty of life, healing, and the gorgeous process
of continuing to engage as the Art Lush I am.

An abstract painting, with 18 windows, looking out onto a mountainside and trees with the sense that autumn is in full swing and the cold is approaching.

Her Largesse: Yedidah Orah

Oil on Canvas | $6,000

Summer 2018—Healing from major surgery in the Spring.
Creating, Engaging, Exploring; I allowed myself to dance with the mystery of life. Many layers of stories, two alternate titles: “Yedidah Of the Four Moons”, and “Yahidah D’Orah”, and the following poem serve to compliment this epic work.
Birthing an Adult;
Birthing a Sprite—
what might!
This artist’s delight.

An abstract piece, composed with dark colors, of a smaller individual in a swirling pool that is housed within a larger individual.

Jane’s Royal; 1,6,0

Acrylic on Canvas | Not For Sale

Spring 2020—Healing through music: imperative in the vibrational mix. Honoring others—teachers, friends, collaborators—a perfect prompt to make more beauty in this world. Jane introduced me to the practice of Change Ringing with Hand Bells many years ago. Joining in with her and my mates helped me to: find my focus—retraining my brain and body coordination, experience the waves of frustration and joy inherent to learning
and exploring, benefit from the vibrational medicine of the sound waves, and appreciate the beauty in uniquely wonderful numeric musical patterns ( AKA “methods”).
Royal’s 10 bell Method called “Little Bob” inspired my 2020 explorations. This second in the series was created as a 60th birthday gift for Jane, who loves jewel tones and Methods in Royal.

A vibrant piece, with a hand grasping a bell, symbolizing the enjoyment of music.
